I am gathering material on the Scots in Newfoundland and Labrador for a book I am writing about them. Their contribution to this province has been largely unnoticed. I’d like to correct that. So, if you are Scottish born and now call N.L. home, or if your father/mother, grandfather/grandmother, great-grandparents etc. came to this province years ago, please let me know as much as possible of the following: 1. year of arrival; 2. place of birth, other places of residence (including inter-generational); 3. settled where in Newfoundland and Labrador; 4. engaged in what line of work. Early on, the majority of young immigrants were male, but in the 20th century there were young, adventurous females as well. The latter were mostly in the medical field, but also there were “war brides” who went to every corner of N.L. after both world wars. Chiefly because of their education and training, these immigrants were soon important figures in the community in which they resided.
