Towing Out the Rafts in Lodge Bay I'll tell you a story of long, long ago As we left Lodge Bay with our wood rafts in tow. Down over the sand bar, through the narrows we went We anchored in Trouty, the night there we spent. Early next morning we got on the way The forecast was calling for a very good day. The Skipper was nervous if the wind came to blow For he knew that we had a good six hour tow. The old Six Acadia, she puttered away As we weighed anchor and steamed out the bay. The worst of the tow would be crossing the sound And everyone prayed that the wind would stay down. Once we got moving we had no place to stop, And the raft could break open in the swell and the lop. The water stayed calm, what a beautiful day With time passing slowly as we moved out the bay. Light up the old bogey, I said with a laugh, And we'll have us a boil-up back on the raft. Boil the old kettle and fry up some trout, By the time we have dinner we'l be half way out. It won't be long now boys, the Skipper did say As he finished his tea, we'll soon call it a day. And then boys, tomorrow, we'll lug it ashore And our next summer's wood will be home by the door. It was a tradition all back through the years, To cut our firewood and logs for repairs Saw logs for lumber, and plank for our flakes Our wharves and our stages and whatever it takes. We'll file our old bucksaw and sharpen our axe Because splitting the big junks is hard on our backs.
