To a Veteran, on Lawrencetown Beach
By Lisa Timpf
He stands upon a wind-swept, stone-strewn shore
And stares off into distant time and space
Thinking of friends lost in a far-off place.
Above, the seagulls squawk and scrap and soar
Enlivened by the salt wind's harsh embrace.
He stands upon a wind-swept, stone-strewn shore
And stares off into distant time and space.
Soul battered by ocean's pounding roar
He lets his mind go backwards and retrace.
A single tear runs down his weathered face.
He stands upon a wind-swept, stone-strewn shore
And stares off into distant time and space
Thinking of friends lost in a far-off place.
