Titanic Tuna
A picture of a tuna that was landed in Conception Bay in 1968. The tuna took the bait off of Seal Cove as we were heading back to Long Pond Manuels. All of the info is on the placard in front of us; the only thing missing is the time, and from my recollection it was 3 hours and 49 minutes, and we never got back to the wharf until approx 10:00 pm. Tuna were very plentiful in Conception Bay in the 60's. At the time this photo was taken, CBC was doing a documentary on tuna fishing in Conception Bay. Dave Candow was sitting in the chair when the tuna struck, so he was strapped in and he began to angle the fish. After 3 hrs. his back began to give him trouble, and he was replaced by Ray Balou of Skipper & Company fame, who had landed a tuna the day before. Ray lasted only a short time and my cousin Bud Duffitt, owner of the boat, sat in and finished off and landed the tuna.
