This Weekend Marks My Anniversary of Joining The Forces
I always get sentimental around this time of year.
Like the Merle song The Running kind.
I was always running away from something.
I wanted to get away from the small town life.
Go toward the City Lights and see the World.
When I told my family I was joining the Military.
They all thought it was some kind of joke and
expected me not to make it through Boot Camp.
Some Support Group! They knew me well and I
was not used to taking Crap from no Man and I
usually had the last word.
I was a bit on the impulsive side. When I went to
the Armed Forces Recruitment Centre in early
February.I told them I will take anything as long
as it is not Infantry or Combat Arms and I am ready
to leave at anytime.Started filling out the paperwork
in February 05 and March 13th I was in Cornwallis.
We landed on a Friday and the Newfoundlander’ s got there first.
It was really Cold in the Barracks as somebody forgot to turn the
Heat on.Most of us were used to living in Old drafty Houses.
So on Sunday the Instructors showed up and so did Recruits from
the rest of Canada. Then the fun and games started. No life like it.
So every year at this time I remember the time and usually on Remembrance Day
as Well.I served 21 years and Retired in June 2001 with a Pension which I have been drawing for the past 25 years.
46 years go by so fast.
I survived and lived to tell about it.
That is all for now folks.
