The Wood Stove
"The Woodstove"
by
George H. Dawe
Norris Arm North, NL
March winds from the North West,
Race through Talcville valley;
Creating savage white-outs
Across the frozen marsh,
Ignorant of the snow plough.
Gust chases gust,
Whistling through trees,
Swirling 'round houses,
Twisting the icy clothesline;
Heedless of the Starlings.
Squall follows squall,
Roaring to intensity,
Humming havoc on the wires,
Causing pitch black-outs;
Unaware of the woodpile.
Hurricane winds sweep white-caps
Into freezing spray,
Stranding the ferry in the tickle;
Without dampening the comfort
From the cozy woodstove.
