The Violin That Could
Four strings, four cords and yet so small
But the fiddle sometimes outshines them all
In the realm of cords from high to low
From fast to slick to touchingly slow
Spirits can rise to an amazing degree
When certain notes harmoniously agree
Jigs and reels sound awesome too
And with guitar have a lovely hue
A mysterious instrument some would say
Which can be daunting and difficult to play
A beauteous work of art to see
An astonishing thing to come from a tree
My soul has been lifted time and again
By the amazing possibilities of a violin
The notes of which does raise my level
My inner discord to be disheveled
A million tunes are possible
And yet a few and I am full
So fulfilling they can be
That peace and tranquility overtake me
A wonderful gift from my dear old dad
God rest his soul what times we had
We had the greatest dreams for me
I learned to play and that he did see
This gift lives on in the greatest splendor
In the culture he gave me so tender
And every note that I do play
Contains his legacy to this very day
For the greatest mystery in the realm of music
Is an essential element of the violin too, see
And the notes of which brought me great peace
May their sound and presence never cease
Yes, an astonishing thing to come from wood
Is the powerful little violin that could.
