THE NEWFIES WON THE GOLD!
’Twas at the Olympic games
In the year 2006.
The Canadians were good
And the Canadians were quick.
The Canadians were winning
In Torino, Italy
And their list of medals
Was growing rapidly.
They broke several records
In several events
And the women beat the men
By 75%.
Then I heard the news
And like this it was told,
“The men’s team from Newfoundland
In curling won the gold!”
Now it was time to party;
For Newfoundland to celebrate
And no one does better.
That goes without debate.
Those Newfies sure impress me
How they support each other.
They all stick together
As if each one was their brother.
They’re so proud of their team
And proud of their Newfie bonds
And now they’re so proud of their medals
They’re even gonna get them bronzed.
Of course I’m only kidding;
No malice is intended
And in no way is this meant
For Newfoundland to be offended.
I know that they enjoy a laugh
As much as anyone
And this little poem I wrote
Was written just in fun.
And now on a serious note,
This is what I think,
“The world now knows about ‘The Rock’
Thanks to Brad Guschue and his rink.”
Congratulations are in order,
And well deserved their victory.
Although the games are over now,
They’ve made their mark in history.
