The Newfie Oil Disaster
One a stormy February morning Two hundred miles from home 84 men were battling high seas and raging foam The Ranger was an oil rig They said could not go down
But 50ft waves caused 84 men to drown The search and rescue tried their best To save what lives the could Through blinding snow and rain and cold They didn't think they could The S.O.S. from the Range was heard in St. John's Town Disaster struck the oil rig And they thinks she's going down But the builders from the U.S. They only laughed and said "The Ranger is a safe ship" But 84 men are dead The Ranger was built for heavy seas, never to capsize But I guess heaven proved them wrong For God thought otherwise There was many a sweetheart and lover who worked the rigs that day They didn't know they said their last goodbye For tragedy was on the way. There was many a sweetheart and mother Back home on the land Weeping sadly for loved ones That now are in God's hands The country felt the sadness When the bad news struck the land About the Ranger meeting a watery grave off the coast of NFLD.
The Ocean Ranger is no more The lives will not return But many more of our brave men To oil rigs will return Now my sad story is over There's not much more to tell There should be better safety For the brave men who work the wells Submitted By: NULL
