The Lonely Home by Chester Powers
How well do I remember
Of the years that just gone by.
And how I held you in my arms
And listened to your cry.
The first time I ever heard your cry
I knew you were my very own.
But little did I ever think
I would be left in a lonely home.
Of all the night I stayed awake
Waiting for you to phone.
I would rather do it over again
Than live in a lonely home.
Mom was always standing by,
You were never left alone.
She always solved your problems
And we had a happy home.
Many little tears I shed,
To you they were unknown.
But I’d rather die with a broken heart
Than live in a lonely home.
I was always on the women'€™s ward;
Never had a son to call my own.
And that's why I'€™m here down-hearted
Living in a lonely home.
And now you're married and settled down,
You have children of your own.
I pray that God will help you
To have a happy home.
Now when you'€™re sad and lonely,
Please don'€™t stay alone.
Come on back and stay with me
And brighten up my home.
So when I cross that blissful shore
Into my heavenly home
I'€™ll be waiting for you to join me
And we'€™ll sing around the throne.
