This is a picture of a cod which was caught in Trinity, Trinity Bay on August 12, 2008- the last day of the recreational cod fishery. It weighed in at 61 pounds and measured five feet long. Trinity is filled with tourists during the summer, and to land this in Trinity Harbour just adds to all the excitement. I grew up in Bay de Verde, and everyone knows how big a fishing village that is, but this is the biggest I have ever seen. I'm sure some of the fishermen there can tell a few stories of big ones they've caught. Just a while ago, there was one published in our local newspaper, the Clarenville Packet, weighing in at 30 pounds; they called that one the Granddaddy. I don't know what to call this one; all I know is that the story goes that "the big one always gets away" but not this time. This is one tourist that won't be returning home!!! To add to my story, I caught it on a rod. What a way to end something I love doing.
