The Cabot Celebrations 1997, LaSalle, Quebec
This was a very successful event and will never be forgotten by many who participated. There was a city parade with a replica of The Mathew on a float (owned by Boyd Dawe, formerly from the Goulds, Newfoundland), citizens dressed in Explorers' costumes, and a large stone placed in the city park to the memory of John Cabot's 1497 Exploration of North America, landing in Bonavista, Newfoundland. It was well attended by all levels of governments, and sponsored by Heritage Canada and the business community of LaSalle, Quebec.
