The Birdhouse House
I travel to the Burin Peninsula often for work and some of the sweetest people I have met live in Point May - Calmer - Lamaline, on the very tip of the Peninsula. Yesterday I was visiting the sweetest elderly man in Calmer and asked if him and his wife knew if "the house with all the bird houses on it" in Lamaline sell those bird houses, they said they weren't sure but that I could always knock on their door and ask. So I left Calmer and had to drive through Lamaline anyways, I drove past "the house with all the bird houses on it" because I felt foolish knocking on a strangers door asking if they sell them. But then stopped, turned around and drove back (I drive past this house often and am always drawn to it). I pulled in the driveway, and knocked on the door... a woman answered and said "I've been waitin for ya! I just got off the phone with her and she said you might be comin' by to look at the bird houses! Come on in it's freezin' outside!" ... I wanted to share my story as it truly warmed my heart. I had just gotten back from a trip to Europe and it made me appreciate living in Newfoundland and Labrador that much more. Ps. I picked out two bird houses, one for my mom and one for me.
