Tales From Away-Where She Longs At~
In non Newfoundland lingo, where one is from or where does one belong.

I love to know where the people that I meet are from (especially if I hear a NL accent)-I always ask and love hearing names of different communities and towns in Newfoundland; and all over the world. It really is a small world as they say because sure enough you usually know of someone else from that specific area or close by.

Even though one may be lucky enough to come from the beautiful island of Newfoundland, there is still most likely a lot of it that we have yet to see. One of the things on my bucket list is to drive all around the actual island one day. Many of us have driven across it (well sort of across it) going from Port aux Basque to St. Johns (then ATB-around the bay), but probably not around the entire island.

I’ve been as far South as you can go; down to Marystown, Mortier-Burin and had a wonderful few days in St. Pierre et Miquelon. Driven through Stephenville, Corner Brook and Deer Lake (‘When The Plane Touches Down in Deer Lake’), but I have yet to visit the most northern tip of St. Anthony and L’Anse aux Meadows. Lived in Wabush for a couple of years, visited Labrador City and Fermont. I want to visit places like Cow Head (especially now because of the ‘Cold Water Cowboys’ show), Port aux Choix & Baie Verte/Burlington (where Shaun Majumder hosts “The Gatheringâ€).

Places like Woody Island, Fogo Island Inn & Signal Hill (yes I’m ashamed to say I’ve never visited there…yet!) are a few more must have sees/places to visit for sure, as many others that I have yet to discover. The recent Newfoundland tourism ad entitled ‘Crayons’ is a beautiful synopsis of the gorgeous spots that one could visit. The song in the video ‘Colours’ sang by Catherine Allan (original by Kira Willey), is such a catchy tune that I cannot stop singing and tweeting about it-such a well done ad in my opinion.

To bring this all back to where I longs at/where I’m from, I come from a beautiful spot on the Conception Bay North stretch called Northern Bay-Sands (1st lived in Gull Island right next door). I may be biased, but to me it’s the most beautiful place on earth! That’s where I longs from…

I’m from ‘our own dear Northern Bay’
Where Northern Bay Sands is located, I’m proud to say
Summertime locals go there for a swim
Visitors come there daily on a whim
I vouch it’s the best place on earth, if I may~

Take care (& be proud of where you comes from) and all the best~Celeste

www.talesfromaway.com Submitted By: Alicia "Celeste" Loughrey
