Tales From Away-Don’t Touch That Dial~
Well if you knows me, you knows I loves The Cabin Party/TCP (talking like a right Newfoundlander here for sure)! I listens to it faithfully every Saturday night, 7:30-11:30 Ontario time (9pm-1am NL time). The words in my title are always said by the long time host-Paul Raynes. It's of course referring to the older versions of radios where you had to turn the dials to bring in the stations-some radios still have the old dials too.

I always look forward to a Saturday night
To listen to the Cabin Party is such a delight
The show has a wonderful host, nice fella Paul Raynes
When he's away it's definitely not the same

I try my best to catch the very beginning of the show, I love the little jingle that plays to let you know the show is coming on. My mom loves that part too and we're always messaging back and forth to see who can guess/knows who the singer of the current song that is playing is-here in TO we have about a 30 second delay so she gets first shot at it.

When one of us visits home we usually make a night of it at my mom's or my Sista's house-my Sista's husband knows almost all the singers of the songs. My brother is a very close second in that contest as well. I love that we all share this and enjoy the comradery with my family and friends, and Newfoundlanders all over. It brings us all together somehow-I participate in a NL Social Media group and I share the link to the Listen To VOCM option quite often. It's surprising how many NLers are not aware that they can listen to this radio show on their computers/laptops/Ipads and even phones.

Some of my favorite songs, just to name a few, that play on there are Walk Through This World With Me-the late George Jones, Save The Last Dance For Me-Anne Murray, and Take Me As I Am a really really special song from the late great A Frank Willis-a Newfoundlander that was known as the One-Man Band. And that he was too, I saw him live years and years ago at the Newfoundlander Tavern here in Toronto.

Just take me as I am
It's too late to change me now

Just let me live my own life
And take me as I am

Wikipedia description of the show: Saturday Night Cabin Party, which is devoted to classic country music from the 1950s to the 1980s.It's the Christmas version of the show on now close to the season, but Paul always throws in a few country classics in there to keep us all happy-God love him!

Whether you're in the cabin or just having a game of cards yes
There's all kinds of old music for all to enjoy
So listen in next Saturday night and you will find
That the Cabin Party music is one of a kind

Take care (give TCP a listen to) and all the best~Celeste

www.talesfromaway.com Submitted By: Alicia "Celeste" Loughrey
