Tales From Away-Anywhere You GoLet Me Go Too~
Love me, that's all I ask of you~

If you know what these words are pertaining to, then you're probably a Phantom of the Opera fan like my best friend and I.

In my early years of first moving to Toronto, I desperately wanted to see the Phantom theatre show. I'm not really sure why, when I look back to that time-maybe because some of my friends were going. I'm not sure what the lure was then, all I can think of was that I love romantic tragedies-Wuthering Heights, Atonement and Tess of the D'Ubervilles, and musical type movies-like Grease, Footloose and Momma Mia. I did go to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starting Donny Osmond and I just might have caught the bug after it.

My new boyfriend, now husband, took me when we were first dating. I did enjoy it but I have to admit I didn't understand it 100% at that time. But funny thing is, I didn't know I didn't fully understand it then, until I saw the movie adaption of the play. Of course it may have something to do with Gerard Butler (love the Scots) playing the Phantom

We were having a girl's night at my best friends house and she played the Phantom movie for me. Her daughters kept looking at me to see if I knew who was playing the part of the Phantom. It took a while but I finally figured it out, I couldn't believe it and I was shocked to see that it was Gerard Butler, and Emmy Rossum (Fiona from Shameless) was playing the part of Christine Daae-they both did such a great job and so did Patrick Wilson as Raoul plus Minnie Driver as Carlotta.

So when the Phantom theatre show came again to Toronto, and my best friend asked me to go for her daughter's birthday, of course I said YES! I was not disappointed, it was beautiful and the stage settings where awesome. I jumped a few times (loud noises scare me), especially when then Chandelier fell and I laughed a few times. I can't stop saying one of Carlotta's lines He love me. He love me. Love me, love me, love me, in her Spanish accent.

After we came home from the show we watched the movie yet again as my best friend's daughter's best friend had not seen the movie adaption. And we were all excited to see it from her point of view, through a fresh pair of eyes. We couldn't stop talking during the movie and things were making sense to her as well. I swear every time I watch the movie adaption or see the show again, I learn something new that I missed previously. I also have music from the show in my head for weeks, I bought the show's cds during the intermission because I remembered how much I loved the music from the show, while watching it. They were on blast on my drive home as well.

The one thing that resonates with me most is the fact that the Phantom let Christine go after capturing her and her kissing him-I love the response to the reason why on Movie Mistakes and I totally agree:

What there was between the phantom and Christine will always be special, that connection And when the phantom finally realizes that he has been loved in that way, even with his haunted face, her kiss made him more human. He truly realizes how much he loves Christine and so, because he loves her too much he lets her go, not wanting to force her anymore. Also knowing that a life with him and his marked sad fate will be torture for her, and he cannot bear to see her unhappy even if that means that he will be unhappy and incomplete forever! Her kindness and love disarmed him and shed warmth to his heart.

Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
Lead me, save me from my solitude
Say you want me with you, here beside you

Take care (& check out The Phantom of the Opera) and all the best~

www.talesfromaway.com Submitted By: Alicia "Celeste" Loughrey
