Support the Troops IV
A snap of the rally held today to show support for our troops. There were about 1400 people at the rally which was supported by The Toronto Sun, CFRB and News Radio 640. During the rally my thoughts went back to Nathan Phillips Square and the rally we held to support the fisheries. We brought out a lot more people. That was quite a feat on our part.
Apart from the disappointing numbers, the quality was there. Everyone wore something red, and they were really well behaved. Newfoundlanders Eddie Coffey and Derek Pilgrim were on stage to entertain the crowd. Derek sang Roy Payne's "Single Maple Leaf" which went over well. I noticed Gordon Lightfoot in the crowd and he was gracious enough to pose for my camera.
The moment that struck me the most was the silence of the crowd and the names were read of all the solders that lost their lives.
Perhaps you should have a rally of support in St. John's. I'm sure you'd get a bigger crowd.
