Recently, when reviewing papers of my late father, J. Allen Rowe of Heart's Content, I found this poem, "Sunset in Heart's Content." As an expatriate, I share your journal with a friend, another expatriate, Harold Oxley, formerly of St. John's.

Sunset at Heart's Content

Have you ever been in Heart's Content?
In the summer o' the year?
It really was some time well spent
To see a "Sunset there."
My memories many places are
Nigh east to west extent
Seen nothing to excel so far
"Sunset at Heart's Content."

Were I an artist and could paint
To canvas would transfer
With you its beauties would acquaint;
My statements would aver.
Aye: if mine were the artist's gift
In "oils" represent
It would your soul with raptures lift
"Sunset at Heart's Content."

A very spacious Harbour here;
Heart shaped so beautifully
A fleet could lie at anchor there
It's sheltered from the sea.
Its contour regular and smooth
As the Great Creator meant
A pleasant sight with lovely soothe
"Sunset at Heart's Content."

We must describe points North and South
At the latter "Lousy Rock"
The Sun aligned with harbours mouth
Surpassing Fjord or Look.
A sight sufficient for the gods
Unneeding more comment
The "Rays" extending countless rods
"Sunset" at Heart's Content."

Those marvelous colours. Superb view
The rainbows green and gold
Changing to ethereal blue
It's beauteous to behold.
Those heavenly radiant afterglow
Write another day is spent
There's naught more beautiful I know
"Sunset at Heart's Content."

As the Universe on axis swings
Mathematically correct
The poet he of beauty sings
Praises the worlds Great Architect.
We know there's many beauty scenes
Could be named "transcendent"
Still claim it's one of "Beauty's Queens"
