Summer Transition
Transition The glass went down past twenty-nine the wind swung round to the nor'west And summer died a little more as August tried to do its best To hold on to the warmth and sun the sou'west wind, with blue in sky But it would be a struggle to for autumn waited to come by Some weeks before the equinox the signs of autumn start to show Especially in the crisper morns and in the changing winds that blow The twilight comes much earlier now as sun moves to the southern line Such things as these in August month of autumn time do show the signs The heavy dew that comes at night does not dry off 'till near mid-day From felted roofs of country camps as summer slowly makes its way A different feeling in the air a different blue up in the sky Where on those windy afternoons the mackerel clouds go floating by And almost imperceptibly the summer heads to its demise And autumn enters for its time before we even realize Its colors splash across the woods and all across the barren ground Though color soon enough will drop and gusty winds blow it around The woodsman in particular takes note of this and understands that nature soon will go to sleep and winter soon will take command He roams the hills, the woods, the bogs across the season and the land Before the winter winds do blow and snow transforms the autumn land Submitted By: wayne taylor
