Sturges of the Sea
Taken in 1954. Eleven sealers with the name Sturge went to the ice in the sealing ship Arctic Sealer with Captain Sid Hill that spring. In the photo are seven of the same family from Wesleyville, Bonavista Bay. Four brothers and three sons. Sitting in Front Row: Samuel (36 years spent in seal fishery), Dave (37 years) Centre Row: Chris (9 years), Ross (21 years) - All brothers Back Row: Sons: Raymond (2 years), Ron (5 years), Reginald (13 years) All totalled, these Sturges have spent more than 120 springs on the ice.
