Streets Of My Boyhood<br /> <br /> Old city of my childhood<br /> St. John's you call to me<br /> Over the long dark distance<br /> You beckon so lively and free<br /> <br /> Back to the streets of my boyhood<br /> You live in my mind so clear<br /> As if it was only yesterday<br /> To there I so long to repair<br /> <br /> Merrymeeting and Newtown Roads<br /> Water Street and New Gower <br /> Rawlin's Cross and Parade Street<br /> Harvey Road and Cabot Tower<br /> <br /> Boncloddy Street and Military Road<br /> Lime Street and Mayor<br /> Empire and Hayward Avenues<br /> Laid out by a city surveyor<br /> <br /> <br /> Hamilton Avenue and Henry<br /> Long's Hill and Duckworth Street <br /> Patrick Street and Pleasant<br /> No finer places to meet<br /> <br /> <br /> Prince of Wales and LeMarchant Road<br /> Bonaventure and Springdale Street<br /> Brazil Square and Barnes Road <br /> Friends there we would often greet<br /> <br /> <br /> Spencer Street and Carter&acirc;€™s Hill <br /> Maxse Street and St Clare<br /> Stoneyhouse and Cookstown Road<br /> Dick's and Churchill Squares<br /> <br /> <br /> Cook, Cathedral and Craigmiller<br /> Bennett Avenue and Barter's Hill<br /> Holloway Street and Campbell Avenue<br /> Come to mind freely at will<br /> <br /> <br /> Those fine old streets of my boyhood<br /> All enshrined so deep in my heart<br /> Will live on forever and ever<br /> For that's where I got my first start<br /> <br /> <br /> Note: I had a lot of help with this poem from my loving wife Marie, who jokingly reminded me that if I didn't include her birthplace of Hamilton Ave I would be in deep trouble.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> John Cornick<br /> Halifax, Nova Scotia<br /> <br />   Submitted By: John Cornick
