This photo was taken in August of 2005, when my husband and I visited Red Bay in Labrador. The weather was perfect - about 30º C, with bright sun and beautiful seascapes.
I am a native Newfoundlander, born in St. John's in the early 30's when my father was posted there with the Bank of Nova Scotia. My parents loved Newfoundland and returned many times in the years following, both as tourists and in his capacity with the bank.
Even though we lived many places in my youth and since, I have always been proud to be a Newfoundlander. My husband and I have returned several times and toured much of the area, always looking forward to our next trip!
I have a question that some of your readers may answer. Does anyone have recollection of the S.S. Merilla? My father's notes show that my mother and I travelled to the mainland on this ship in June of 1932, going to Halifax from St. John's.
