This picture of a St. John's Fire Dept. badge belonged to my great grandfather Robert Vey, whom we know very little about. His wife was Alice Vey who lived out her days in the Poor Asylum in St. John's and is listed as being an inmate there in 1935. The stories we were told is that Robert Vey was a fireman (either a volunteer or permanent, we do not know which one) and died of pneumonia as a result of firefighting activities. We believe he died prior to 1913. If anyone can offer any information about the "badge" and/or the "Poor Asylum" it will be appreciated.
