I have noticed older pictures in other issues of Downhome. Ran across this one of my father, Hayward Harold Spencer, in the Newfoundland Navy of the WWI era. He and my mother, Georgina L. Clarke, both were from Springdale, NL. Father came to the U.S. after WWI to look for work. His naval records indicate that he lived in Pennsylvania, but that was not the case. He was evidently going to PA immediately after his term in the Newfoundland Navy.

Later, he sent for my mother, and she and the Warrs from Springdale went to Pennsylvania, where Hayward Spencer and Georgina Clarke were married and had five children before he passed in 1937. The Warrs attended the wedding. His eldest son, Harold Lloyd Spencer, was killed in the Normandy invasion, although he made it to St. Lo, France. Two of Hayward's sons became retired ministers, one a retired school teacher. His daughter passed away a few years ago. She had married, in Toronto, a gentleman from Norman's Cove, N.L., Arthur Piercey. Their children live here in the Tampa area; Arthur still has many relatives in Norman's Cove. We have made several trips to Newfoundland through the years to see the Spencers and the Clarkes in the Springdale area, and the Pierceys in Norman's Cove.

Father, Hayward Harold Spencer, is in the front row, second from the left. I don't know any of the others. Perhaps you could do a research in Downhome to identify some of the others. I don't need to know any of the others.
