Sojourn By The Sea
September breezes embrace sailboats
Skimming the horizon against the pale blue sky.
Fishermen cleaning their catch beside the pier,
With hungry seagulls hovering close by.
Sounds from the ebbing tide soothing my senses,
Shallow waves rippling across the nearly naked ocean floor,
Where hermit crabs quickly scurry sideways,
Amid broken shells, pebbles, sea grass and more.
Lulled into a state of mind
Only a sojourn by the sea can provide,
My vision not obscured, though my eyes are closed,
For the windows of my soul remain open wide.
Sights and sounds meander through the corridors of my mind
Clearing dust, cobwebs, and ancient clutter away.
Life’s daily rush will claim me again tomorrow,
But I belong to the sea today.
