Sliding on Joe’s Hill
Was a favourite Gull Island winter pastime of ours
My cousins and I would go up there and slide for hours
It looked so big and safe way back then
Too close to the main road when I look at it now again
On school mornings we’d patiently wait there for the bus to stop
Knowing that at the end of the day that fence we would hop
My Sista’ Mary cut her leg on that barbed wire fence
I think I laughed at the time but I was young in my defense
Other times we’d skate on the patch of ice on the border of Burnt Point
There was so much to do down there, never to disappoint
I’m so glad I grew up in Newfoundland "Down The Shore (DTS)"
The memories will remain within in me forever more.
