Sixth Annual Newfoundland Day in Maine
Sixth Annual Newfoundland Day Update
Poland Spring Resort, Poland Spring , Maine
June 4, 2016
Newfoundland Day, June 4, 2016 at the lovely Poland Spring Resort was quite the fantastic time. Dancing, clapping, screeching (in), ranting and roaring was the order of the evening. Many wannabes got an education about our beautiful province. We waved our NL flags proudly and had the restaurant decorated with NL Tartan and posters as well as lots of NL Tourism materials available.
Needless to say, we missed friends who are no longer with us or couldn't be at this fun time for one reason or another.
And, of course, we all loved the wonderful buffet which included fish cakes, toutons and figgy duff. Thanks to Cyndi Robbins and her staff for a fine meal which was similar to Jigg's Dinner.
The Squid Jiggers (Dave Rowe & Troy Bennett) put on a fantastic show which included several Newfoundland songs. It was stated a few times Their selection of songs was perfect for the evening. And by the way, CBC Radio, St. John's interviewed them on their morning show the day before when Troy and Dave talked about Newfoundland Day..
The mummers were lots of fun and nobody could guess who they were. (not!)
The Screech In ceremony was a big hit. We now have three more Honorary Newfoundlanders in our midst. And I must say they were very proud to earn the title and were all great sports.
Those Newfoundland events have become more & more special each year. It has become a Newfoundland family reunion of sorts. And to meet "new" Newfoundlanders is always a great pleasure.
Newfoundland Day is usually the 1st Saturday in June at Poland Spring , Maine.
The Annual Newfie Picnic in Lisbon, ME will be on July 30, rain or shine.
(You should have already gotten an info letter by email on the Newfie Picnic-If not, please let me know)
Submitted By: Daphne Izer
