Sir Robert Bond our most admired
Of all Prime Ministers, and deservedly reaped
Born in eighteen fifty seven
Of St. John’s merchant family steeped

Entering politics at age twenty seven
He served his country for thirty a year
As Liberal Party leader in eighteen ninety seven
And ten as Prime minister during his career

He was honored with the Freedom of the Cities
Of London, Manchester and of Bristol
In the year of nineteen hundred and seven
Such illustrious a career was so very crystal

Ill heath then caused him to retire
At an early age of fifty seven
Until his death in March nineteen twenty seven
To solitude at Whitbourne’s “Grange”, his heaven

His career marked by many achievements
He was most admired for personal sacrifice
Statesmanship, integrity and commitment
Being named our greatest politician, the price

And if you think that seven is lucky
For a man of sevens in life and career
You will know why he achieved so much
And why it is he we so revere



They say that seven is a lucky number. If so, then Robert Bond certainly had his share of sevens in his life, as well as his political career. Bond was a politician I much admire.
