Sherm El Shiek
A Russian Jet fell out of the sky
There were no survivors on mt. Sinai
They were on their way home
All tanned and slick
On their way home from old Sherm el Shiek
I remember the dessert I remember the sand
I remember the mountains in that distant land
I swam in the Lagoon, I dived off the reef
Not a whole lot to do there, you better believe
Just Canadian Sigs and a few lonely Swedes
Longing for home, family and feeds
A tent in the sand and some mosquito net
Sand in your rations, how hard can it get
The Bedouin would come and camp in the night
We’d see their camels, wives and kids in the bright morning light
One day they’d be there, the next they’d be gone
We were the strangers, we didn’t belong
A Russian jet fell out of the sky
We know it happened, we wonder why?
They came in peace for the warmth and the sun
What they got was I.S.I.S, Al Qaeda, the hate and the bomb.
-Randell Prior Keeping, former Royal Canadian Signal Corps and Blue Beret
