Our family always had pets throughout the years. There is always one that stands out. We were a family of eight, six children, mom and dad. We were given a dog who was just a puppy from a family who was moving away and couldn't take him with them. He was black and white in color, no special; breed but so loveable and cute. All the family loved him, including our neighbors. He walked all the children to the bus stop everyday; he slept most of the day, after school when the bus arrived home Chico would be there to receive love and attention from everyone. One day he crossed the road and a car accidently hit him, the driver stopped and told us sadly about it everybody agreed the dog was done. All the children cried, including the neighbor's children. The driver cried saying he would find another dog for us. My husband and I put the dog in our back meadow and he planned to bury him after supper. Several hours later my little daughter looked out the window and said "mom, look! Chico is out in our back yard" I said " no my love, he is gone." But sure enough it was a very shaky Chico coming home. Much joy and happiness resounded in my house and all around. The neighbors and all the kids and their friends were overjoyed and Chico received love and special attention. Several weeks passed and we had a knock on our door, it was the driver that had struck Chico. He had a little puppy with him for our children. He said "I didn't forget my promise to get a dog for your family." I said, "sir, if you look out in my garden you will see the dog you thought you killed." He was overjoyed and so surprised and promised to find a good home for the little puppy. Chico lived for many years after and at the age of 14 years died of natural cause.   Submitted By: Erica Yetman
