Seasons of the Harbour (Wayne Taylor, Bonavista)<br /> <br /> It's springtime in the harbour<br /> boats sail out on the bay<br /> They've been launched from the beaches<br /> where they've spent the long winter days<br /> Fresh painted, their make-and-breaks putter<br /> as the codtraps are set on the grounds<br /> Its springtime in the harbour <br /> and summer will soon be around<br /> <br /> It's summertime in the harbour<br /> with fish spread on flakes to dry<br /> Hay is cut in the meadows <br /> and crops grow under blue skies<br /> It's a busy time for the codfish<br /> have followed the capelin to shore<br /> And men and women and children<br /> are busy with many a chore<br /> <br /> Its autumn time in the harbour<br /> boats are now hauled ashore<br /> Potatoes are stowed in the cellar<br /> like in countless seasons before<br /> As leaves quietly fall on the hillsides<br /> they're taking the time to prepare<br /> Their homes for the comfort of families<br /> for long winter evenings draw near<br /> <br /> Its wintertime in the harbour<br /> covered with ice and with snow<br /> Life and the cycle of seasons<br /> continues to change and to roll<br /> It's a time for the quiet of families<br /> and replenish the woodpile again<br /> For when winters grip starts to lessen<br /> its prepare for the water again<br /> <br /> Seasons pass in the harbour<br /> time and tides ebb and flow<br /> And old traditions of people<br /> sustain them in hard times you know<br /> Old men on the wharf know the pattern<br /> as the seasons they come and they go<br /> They understand as they quietly wait<br /> a year's gone, it's marked by new snow<br />   Submitted By: wayne taylor
