Sea Pelts or Cow Manure!
This one was told to me by a Fisheries Officer who could be a rad Outspoken
I think it was around Twillingate in Summer. The Sealer’s were leaving Seal Pelts
down by the Water to dry out in the Sun.
Well there was a Woman who had recently moved there who liked to have her Windows
open to Basque in the fresh Salt Air.She kept getting this awful smell when the wind changed from the
Beach. She was a bit of a chronic Complainer and one day our friend had enough.
She had been raised on the Prairies with the Good Old Hereford Beef Cows and now Retired
to the Bay area.
The Conversation went something like this.
Mam I understand you came from the Prairies.Well I have been to the Prairies myself
and I know they use Cows Manure for fertilizer.
You have a Couple of Choices,You are more than Welcome to stay here and put up
with the smell of Seal Pelts or go back to the Prairies and smell the Cow Shack.
Needless to say his Boss was not pleased at how he handled the situation.
You know when they ask.Did You really say that? You know you have
some Mansplaining to do.
