On Sept. 10, 2011, I (Laurie-Ann Clarke) received quite the surprise at our wedding reception in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia when, after completing his speech, my new husband (Adam Clarke, formerly of Corner Brook) cued the DJ, donned a sou’wester, hip waders, and yellow oilskins and danced a jig around the room clutching a Newfoundland ugly stick. We all quickly realized what was coming-- he did a full-fledged Screeching-in ceremony! And you won’t find any wooden puffins at this one! Leave it to him to convince his father to bring a whole frozen Newfoundland cod back to Nova Scotia on the ferry. I’m proud to be an honorary Newfoundlander!
