Sarah Jane Pike and John Charles Pike from Carbonear
This is a picture of my grandparents, from the Pondside, Carbonear taken circa 1890. I cherish this picture as photographs taken in this era are very few and far between. I never met my grandfather as he died when my dad (an only child) was 15,leaving him in sole support of his mother. My grandmother, however, lived to the wonderful old age of 100 and told the most fascinating stories of her life and work with her husband, a commercial salmon fisherman in the Labrador.
