Home of Mr. Bob & Mrs. Ruth Robinson

About 1960/1961.

We were introduced to Mr. Bob and Mrs. Ruth Robinson of York Harbour by Freddie and Amy Messervey. It was about 1960/1961 and Mr. Bob was recently retired from sea-going services as ship's captain.

When moving to York Harbour, according to Mr. Bob, the only way in was by boat. He was instrumental in having a road built and electricity installed in the area.

He was truly a gentleman and she, a lady.

As is the Newfoundland custom, we were freely invited into their home as friends, and had the opportunity to spend nights in their home.
He, being a sea-going person most of his adult life, was full of many "stories." It was easy to encourage him to relate these "stories."
By showing our interest - and, of course, having a drink or two of rum or Newfoundland Screech - he could keep us spellbound to the small hours of the morning or as long as anyone would keep listening.

I'm sure that the people of York Harbour area and relatives of this couple will agree they were not ordinary people - but were extraordinary.

During our travels through life, we feel it was a wonderful experience to have met and known these Newfoundlanders.
