In the now distant history of Joe Batt's Arm
some things have been lost which had certain charm.
In the area I live, in the past it's been said
that the general region was called Riverhead.

I've heard my dad say it time and again
and I'm sure older folks would know it back then
it was little talked about when I grew up
just mentioned with attachment over a tea cup.

At the end of the harbour at Clay Clove Head
would be Rivers End it was generally said.
One of the last outposts of the far east
of North America where prosperity was least.

Of course there was great poverty back then
and people clung to such simple things.
The name of a place would be well instilled
like Riverhead near Clay Cove Hill.

The history of such how a name came about
is probably lost which I say with some doubt
some information may still be known
by some older people who call this place home.

At Joe Batt's Arm, between North and South
would be the centre of Riverhead no doubt.
A small piece of history not much remembered
