Dear Downhome,

I received your October Downhome on September 23, 2025 and as I read it or scanned over it, I noticed the story on page 83 This Month in History. What caught my eye was the name of one of the Canadian Coast Guard members, Chief Officer Gregory Peddle of Spaniards Bay. He was my first cousin. When I visited NL I would go meet his parents, Susie and Joe Peddle, my aunt and uncle. There on display were Gregory’s pictures. Now when I go out to Spaniards Bay I visit the three graves. I’m sure Billy, Ralston, brothers, and sisters Jo Anne, Melinda and Madonna are very proud. Also there was a boat called Gregory Peddle. It was christened by his proud mom Susie Peddle.

Keep up the good work like these stories. They cause tears and smiles to be a called a Newfoundlander.
