Rare Goose in Nl
Dear Downhome, On June 26th 2009 my dughther had to go into the Janeway. With an eight-day stay in St. John's we needed to get out around. On one of our walks around Quidi Vidi Lake we came across this big bird. Not knowing what it was we stayed and watched it for about 20 minutes. It was plain to see right from the beginning this big bird was on guard. To our surprise this bird was protecting a duck and her ducklings. it was amazing to watch as he wouldn't let anyone go near them. When the mother duck finally went into the water with her ducklings this big bird followed like a father protecting it's children. For about a week later we talked about this bird, not knowing what it was, and thanks to your May magazine that my mother was holding onto, we found out what it was - a Greater White Fronted Goose. Thank you. Trish Francis Clarkes Head, NL Submitted By: Trish Francis
