Quite a Catch
This picture was taken on Cowards Island in Bonavista Bay in 1952. Standing on the left is me (William Butt) now residing in Grand Falls-Windsor and on the right is my brother (Albert Butt) who resides in Cambridge, Ontario. This picture has always been the talk of the family. The codfish in this photo weighed a whopping 83 pounds. Our cousin (Chesley Butt) of Burnside, Bonavista Bay is behind the splitting table on the wharf and he is holding up the cod with a pitchfork. This cod was caught by our father (Heber Butt) who passed away in 1985. Try to catch a cod this size today!! Don't see it happening. Would love to see this story in the Downhome. It would make my day!
