Public Servant
Angel Without Wings
I cannot remember you
Since you left
On a day before my mind became memory
But skillful were those hands
That guided my entry
Onto this earth.
An old photograph
And remembrance of my father’s words
That on the day of your departure
Your flight path took you straight
Into the arms of the Creator.
This, the only record
Of your presence
Aunt Clara, Inuit Elder
One whose calling, ever so noble
Yet so humble.
Though few are the written words
Recorded by history
Your legacy is all around me
Among those for whom you laboured
And sought to fill His world.
Oh, to look into your eyes
And witness your wisdom
To savour the lines of age and beauty
And feel your kindness
You, Aunt Clara, Inuit Elder
An angel without wings.
