Poem for a Childhood Friend
The other night I dreamt of my childhood friend
In her garage playing badminton for hours we’d spend
She was one of the most popular girls in class if not the most
She was kind to me and would never boast
We weren’t as close when I moved from one community to another
From my father’s land in Gull Island to the Northern Bay land of my Mother’s
She became a nurse, married her childhood sweetheart and daughters she has two
I moved to Toronto, married, have two stepsons and a son of my own, the years have flew
We’ve lost touch over the years but I think about her every now and again
I’d like to see her on one of my next visits home but I don’t know when
