I like the analogy that time is like a river. You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. I look at photography in this light, a snippet of time that you can capture and preserve for future generations. Once the photo is taken, the same picture cannot be taken again. Lighting changes, subject moves, shading caused by cloud cover, etc. Born and raised in Hare Bay, Bonavista Bay, I was fortunate in that I grew up close to nature. I developed a keen interest in photography, by observing the changing seasons and weather patterns, and a desire to pass a memory on to future generations. I got hooked on photography noting that a landscape shot would present itself differently every season. This knowledge increased with knowing the importance of lighting, reflections, angle of the shot, etc. I learned simple things like changing the mood of a flora shot by simply spritzing water on the flower thus changing the composition of the photo. I am retired these days and have more time to pursue this hobby. I am looking forward to new ideas and new subjects, knowing that there is an unlimited supply of material in this great province of Newfoundland and Labrador. I have used various cameras in the past (Canon AE1, Polaroid, point and shoot). These days I use a Canon Rebel XS and a Canon Rebel T7. [I use] various lenses, my favourite is a Canon zoom 75-300. I would like to encourage everybody that if you have even the slightest interest in photography, take a camera and go for a walk, take photos. You will be surprised with the results and you help to preserve the beauty of Newfoundland and Labrador forever. I will leave you with a stanza of my favourite poem by Robert Frost: I shall be telling this with a sigh, Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less travelled by, And that has made all the difference.   Submitted By: NULL
