Partridge Hunting on the Barrens
5 partridge that I shot while hunting on the south west coast of Newfoundland (south of Hard Bread Brook). While growing up in Newfoundland I like most of my other friends hunted which our fathers taught us. The most vivid statement that I remember my father and uncle's tell me is to never cross over Hard Bread Brook due to the possibility of getting stranded, or even getting lost on the other side of it. This made me want to cross over it even more, so on a clear sunny day I decided to hunt south of the brook. I only walked about 5 minutes from the brook when I started to see and shoot the elusive partridge Now after all of these years of my father telling me not to cross over Hard Bread Brook I wonder if he only told me that so he could keep this terrific hunting spot to himself. The focal point of this picture is the mark rocks which have been here for years. People use these mark rocks mostly during foggy weather and during the winter to let them know where they are.
