I was a longtime subscriber up to a couple of years ago when I became a bit of a vagabond between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, but now I am settled again and receiving your fine magazine. While I was going through a box of old photographs from my boyhood days in Harbour Grace back in the late '50s and early '60s, I came across this one. The photo is of a statuesque young lady diving off the "rock" in Rocky Pond behind Harbour Grace, circa 1960. This was the town's swimming area before the joint towns built the CBN abomination of an incinerator and totally devastated a beautiful hiking, berrypicking and swimming area. Girl Guides and Scouts from all over CBN camped there at Allen's Field in the summers. I think the young woman's name is Judy, and she was a Guide leader, maybe from Bay Roberts or thereabouts.

PS: On page 27 of the March 2009 issue, a photo entitled "The Rock" is quite visible from my home town, Harbour Grace 'hill,' Lady Lake Road. It did look like the Island until the same storm that sank the Ocean Ranger knocked most of the Northern Peninsula into the bay.   Submitted By: NULL
