Or Maybe Here…
As I always read the Downhome issue each month and always find it interesting, I thought I should bring my August issue with me on my trip to the North Pole. I thought that the Downhome had never been that far North before.
I am working onboard a Canadian Coast Guard ship, CCGS Louis S. St. Laurent, as a health officer, and many of my co-workers and crew members are from Newfoundland. This mission is part of the UNCLOS Canada-USA Joint Expedition in the Arctic Ocean. UNCLOS, for those of you who don’t know, is the group responsible for mapping the Arctic Ocean.
As you will see from the picture taken from the bridge’s operational equipment, we were at the altitude of 88.27 and longitude of 159.21 on the 1st of September - only 97 nautical miles from the Pole.
Best Regards,
Claude Morency
Health Officer
