On the Rails
As someone who has hiked the T’Rail,
When it was still a road with rail;
I can commiserate with those,
Who made and rode, now in repose.
Many men it took to forge,
Through every rock-cut, every gorge;
Fording streams and rivers wild,
A project not, for meek or mild.
Sweat of brow fulfilled the task,
Whose fortunes, in the red, would bask,
Never paying for its keep,
The line was, finally, put to sleep.
A purpose served, and served so well,
How many stories it can tell;
Of trapped at topsails, off the rails,
Heroic and amusing tales.
A legacy of our storied past,
Its name and fame forever cast;
May those who venture on its bed,
Remember well, what has been said!
