On the Flake
A photo of fish drying on our flake, with Northern Island on the background; my grandparents' house is in the center of the photo. Mark Cooper, from Twillingate, is in the center of all that fish on our flake; he was courting my sister at that time and married her two years later. How things have changed since I grew up on the island! Today there are only memories of what used to be; all the houses, stages, and flakes as well as the fish have gone - some towed away, some just decayed and fallen down.
