On Board Peary Expedition – 1909
This is a picture of my great-grandfather, the late Thomas Gushue, of Brigus. He was first mate reporting to Captain Bob Bartlett on the SS Roosevelt, accompanying Admiral Robert E. Peary on his most famous voyage - being the first to reach the North Pole on April 6th, 1909. Captain Thomas Gushue also sailed with Captain Bob as the Boatswain on the schooner, the Effie M. Morrissey. Peary counted himself fortunate to have had Captain Tom in his service. Submitted By: Lorraine Yates
