I have the Downhomer since it came out. I received it at the craft shop at Whiteway, then I received the magazine every month. It was free then.

I was a teacher for years and my husband was also a teacher. We taught school at Isle aux Morts and during the winter we had to get on our backsides and sled from school to our house. It’s much improved now.

My husband, Clayton Willis Vatcher, has since died and I am in a home at Alberta. I am 92 years old.

Going through some papers, I found a lot of receipts of oil bills which I thought you would like to see. Just imagine how much oil for your house would cost today and what it cost a long time ago.
We rented and the bill for oil is for our house, which was Fishery House. We rented it from an Eric Serly, I think that was his name.

I’m 92 years old and I am pretty good for my age and I am very thankful for my life. My husband has passed away, but my son, Clayton David, and daughter, Darlene Vatcher Thomas, live nearby in Alberta.

So I hope you enjoy this bit of information. Isle aux Morts has changed a lot since we lived there, but memories still linger.

Thankful for the Downhomer. It has come a long ways and it’s still going strong.
