Old Men and Spring<br /> <br /> As February neared its end<br /> and March brought promise of a spring<br /> The thoughts of old men turned to times<br /> when they were young and in their prime<br /> with fishing season on their minds<br /> and there were nets to mend<br /> <br /> Down by the beach and in the lun<br /> of stages and old fishing stores<br /> They looked across the broader bay<br /> with pack ice jammed in many days<br /> and rafted up the beach a ways<br /> a blinding whiteness in the sun<br /> <br /> Yarning and yearning, passing views<br /> they told the stories of their years<br /> Of capelin sculls while cod did run<br /> of making fish in summer sun<br /> of autumn times when it was done<br /> and then went home to fish and brewis<br /> Submitted By: wayne taylor
